Paola Garcia
Administrative Manager & Social Media Manager (Instagram)
Paola is a Western University alumni, graduating as a part of the class of 2019 with an honours degree in criminology and a minor in the Spanish language and hispanic cultures. She joined the Wrongful Conviction Day committee in 2018 to bring awareness and educate others on the prevalence of wrongful convictions in Canada and around the world. Apart from the committee, Paola currently works at a personal injury law firm. On her spare time she enjoys spending time with her friends, going to concerts, and traveling.

Marisa Parsons
Project Manager for Proclamations and Illuminations
Marisa is a University of Guelph Almuni, completing a Master of Political Science Degree with a focus on prisoner litigation. Marisa joined the Wrongful Conviction Day Committee in 2018 and has played an active role in raising awareness for the exonerates. Marisa is the Project Manager for the Proclamations and Illuminations Team. Their goal is to encourage cities across the country to recognize October 2nd as Wrongful Conviction Day through a written proclamation. The signed proclamations and illuminations of landmarks helps bring attention to our campaign against wrongful convictions and demonstrates support to the exonerees. Outside of the committee she enjoys spending time with friends and hopes to travel again soon.

Bianca Tapia
Social Media Leader - TikTok
Bianca is currently a sociology student at Pima College in Tucson, Arizona, United States. She joined the Wrongful Conviction Day Committee in 2020 and was a member of our Instagram group. As of early 2021, she joined our Social Media Leaders and now leads our TikTok account. She joined the committee after learning more about wrongful convictions. She believes it is important as a society to recognize systematic imperfections and the individuals who have been failed by the justice system. Outside of IWCDC, Bianca works as an elementary teacher aide and enjoys spending time with her family and three dogs.

Charlotte Taylor-Baer
Fundraising Project Manager
Charlotte is a fourth year undergraduate student at Simon Fraser University completing a double major in Criminology and Archaeology, Honours in Criminology, and Certificates in Forensic Science and Liberal Arts. Her research focus in her undergraduate has been on wrongful convictions and forensic science and she hopes to continue this research while pursuing a MA in Criminology. She joined the Wrongful Convictions Day Committee due to her pervious interest in wrongful convictions and her passion for helping bring awareness to the injustices in our systems. Outside of the IWCDC, she is a Co-Founder and the Outreach Director for the Wrongful Convictions Collective, she is a Research Assistant in the Centre for Forensic Science at SFU, and volunteers in multiple other SFU student led clubs and organizations.

Meghan Williams
Social Media Leader - Instagram
Meghan is a Western University graduate, with an honours degree in criminology and a minor in psychology. She joined the International Wrongful Conviction Day Committee in 2020 after learning about wrongful convictions while studying Criminology at Western. Meghan joined the committee to help raise awareness of the flaws in the justice system that profoundly impact the wrongfully convicted and their loved ones. She was extremely inspired by the stories of those who have been exonerated and wanted to continue to amplify those voices and help those who have not yet had their voices heard. Meghan is the Project Manager for the WCD Instagram and hopes to start the conversation for many about wrongful convictions. Outside of IWCDC, Meghan works as a retail manager and spends her free time listening to music and planning for future travels.

Mabel Pastrana
Junior Administrative Assistant & Social Media Leader - Facebook
Mabel is a University of Guelph alumni who graduated in 2018 with a BA Honours in Criminal Justice and Public Policy. She is currently in her first year of law school at Queens University Faculty of Law. She joined the committee in 2018 after taking a wrongful convictions class and meeting co-founder Win Wahrer during a guest speaker lecture. She joined the committee to help bring awareness and educate on such an important aspect of our criminal justice system that at times gets overlooked. She hopes to continue to bring awareness and advocacy during law school, with the ultimate goal of amplifying those voices left unheard and reducing the impact wrongful convictions and miscarriages of justice could have on another individual. Outside of the IWCDC, Mabel enjoys working out, binging TV shows, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
