The Marshall Project has published the story of Earline Brooks Colbert, whose brother Elvis Brooks and son Cedric Dent were both wrongfully convicted in separate incidents. As she put it, “Although it was a coincidence, I knew it wasn’t a mistake.” Her story highlights the systemic nature of wrongful conviction, and the suffering endured by those who love the wrongfully convicted.
