Innocence Investigation Ordered for Kevin Cooper

In late May 2021, Governor Gavin Newsom ordered an independent investigation of Kevin Cooper, an prisoner who has been on death row since 1985 for the murder of four people in San Bernardino County. For 36 years Cooper has insisted he was innocent, with many high-profile supporters questioning the legitimacy of his arrest due to the questionable missing or tampered evidence and multiple murder weapons. This case may serve as a landmark trial to in undermining the death penalty in the state of California and even nationally.
