Michael Saunders Shot to Death
The Chicago Sun Times reported that on June 21st at 3am, Michael Saunders was shot and killed in Calumet Park. Saunders was one of the Englewood four; four men who, in 1994, were convicted of the rape and murder of a women in their neighbourhood. The foursome’s confessions were coerced by Chicago Police, and in 2011, as DNA evidence proved their innocence, and the group was exonerated. After Saunders’ release, he was a productive member of society, and acted as support for other exonerees struggling with re-entry post release. The circumstances of the killing are not clear, but police have ruled it a homicide.
