When Innocence Isn’t Enough

“When Innocence Isn’t Enough”, the first fundraiser sponsored by the Organization of Exonerees was held at Huntington Tower in Detroit, MI on October 10, 2023 in honor of Wrongful Conviction Day. It was very well attended by exonerees, their friends and family, and members of the legal teams, innocence projects, and Conviction Integrity Units from the state of Michigan.  There was a beautiful buffet and all sorts of interesting hors d 'oeuvres  passed around, an open  wine bar,  and lots of room to socialize as well as seating for the large crowd.  A short presentation featured an amazing documentary of several of Michigan’s exonerees, a short but highly energized presentation by Valerie Newman, head of the Wayne County, MI CIU and the founder of the Organization of Exonerees and also by Kenneth Nixon, exoneree and president of the Organization, and by various other members of the exoneree movement.  Of particular note was the welcome by Gary Torgow, chairman of the Board of Directors of Huntington National Bank.  The Bank donated the space, the food and beverages and Mr.Torgow was extremely welcoming on behalf of the bank and because of his involvement with the CIU and many of the exonerees.
